The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is a day commemorated in Canada each December 6. This is the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre where an armed male student murdered fourteen women and injured ten others in the name of "fighting feminism". This day remembers them, and the many other women, who are victims of violence and whose lives met a tragic end. The Province of Manitoba and St. Mary’s Academy will be lowering our flags to half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Monday, December 6, 2021 to mark this day. Our community prayer will be in memory of the lives harmed and lost, and we will pray for an end to violence, particularly against women. Students are invited to add their own prayer intention on our Remembering the Women bulletin board outside of Durocher Library.
