At SMA, we're creating opportunities for young women to become leaders in the service of others beyond our local community.
We are now offering Extended Service Experiences (ESE), (formally called mission trips) to junior and senior students.
ESEs will be offered on alternating summers, with juniors in the summer of 2023 and seniors in the summer of 2024.
ESEs are longer than our usual service opportunities. Senior students will participate in an international experience and junior students in a four-day local experience.
ESEs will also include intentional preparation and follow-up, addressing the spirit, mind and body of participants.

Upcoming Extended Service Experiences
Junior Students
Beatitude Attitude—Be Happy
June 20-23, 2023
SMA’s Junior Extended Service Experience is based on Just5Days and delivered by the Mission and Charism Department. Beatitude Attitude—Be Happy is for students who are in Grades 7 and 8 in the 2022-2023 school year. The experience takes place at St. Mary’s Academy—students have most meals at SMA, sleep at SMA and participate at service sites during the day. Adult and senior high students accompany small groups.
Senior Students
In late June and early July of 2024, SMA senior years (grades 9 to 12) students will have the opportunity to travel to Peru for a service experience. While there, the group will visit a SNJM congregation and connect with them and the work that they do. The group will also travel to a mountain community near Sacred Valley and work with the local government to complete a community project with an emphasis on helping the women and children of the community.
