Students are encouraged to wear a pink shirt instead of a regulation uniform top in support of bullying prevention. This is a no-cost casual day for students who wear pink shirts. Students not wearing pink shirts must be in SMA’s regulation uniform.
Pink Day began in Nova Scotia in 2007 when two grade 12 students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, chose to take action against bullying behaviour after ninth grade student Chuck McNeill was bullied for wearing a pink shirt during the first day of school. Their actions sparked a world-wide movement shedding light on the issues surrounding bullying and inspired others to speak out against bullying.
