Truth and Reconciliation Week

At SMA, we continue to dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration. Our community is weaving learning materials and activities into our curricula throughout the year to build awareness and understanding in our community. Next week, our Science department will have a local florist and forager come to do some land-based education with Science classes in grades 8, 10 and 12. Our Human Rights Team will be selling shirts in honour of Orange Shirt Day (see more information below). On Friday Sept 27th, students and staff can wear their Every Child Matters shirt in honour of Orange Shirt Day. Students are expected to wear their regulation uniform this day, with the orange shirt as their top option. Prayers offered and personal reflection moments will be woven into our days during the week. Monday, Sept 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we encourage our families to hold conversations, to build awareness, and participate in events held locally or virtually.
