The SMA rugby team is open to students in Grades 9–12, and offers an opportunity to develop skills, teamwork, and resilience in a competitive environment. The format of play—whether sevens or fifteens—depends on the number of athletes and their experience level.
Training begins indoors in February, giving novice players the opportunity to develop fundamental skills and game knowledge while allowing all athletes to build fitness, refine their techniques, and bond as a team. Once the fields are ready, the team transitions to outdoor play for a season that lasts approximately 6 to 8 weeks. Most games take place at Maple Grove Park, with SMA competing in the Manitoba High School Rugby league, part of Rugby Manitoba.
With a fast-paced and dynamic style of play, SMA rugby fosters both individual growth and team success, creating a challenging yet supportive environment for athletes to thrive.
