Our volleyball program emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and fostering a love for the sport, offering opportunities for students at different levels of play.
Junior (Grades 7 and 8)
At the junior level, the emphasis is on building fundamental skills, teamwork, and introducing students to the competitive nature of the game. Based on factors such as student interest, the number of participants, available coaches, gym time, and skill level, SMA forms both developmental and competitive teams. The team structure also adapts to the league's framework each year, ensuring flexibility to meet students' needs and league regulations.
Grade 9
Grade 9 volleyball serves as a bridge between junior and senior-level play, where athletes focus on enhancing their skills and understanding more complex strategies. While there is no official league for Grade 9, the team participates in exhibition games against other Grade 9 teams, giving players valuable experience and opportunities to further develop.
Junior Varsity (Grade 10)
The Junior Varsity (JV) level offers Grade 10 players a more challenging volleyball experience, helping to prepare them for varsity competition. Athletes refine their technical skills, game strategy, and teamwork while competing against other schools in the league. Depending on skill level, some Grade 9 players may also join the JV team.
Varsity (Grades 11 and 12)
Varsity volleyball is the pinnacle of competition at SMA. These teams bring together highly skilled athletes who are dedicated to excelling in the sport and proudly representing the school.Varsity athletes focus on advanced gameplay, leadership, and preparing for post-secondary volleyball opportunities. Commitment to this level is essential, as players compete against top teams in the league.
