The Mission Club gives students the opportunity to help those in need, both locally and within the global community. Each year the Mission Club provides financial assistance, through various fundraising projects, to organizations that are either managed or supported by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.

Students can be involved as either homeroom class representatives or as members of the Mission Club. As a Mission Class Rep, students attend monthly meetings, facilitate the planning and organizing of fundraising activities, and ensure their classmates receive updates about current and upcoming events hosted by the Club. Members play an important role in working with the Reps in their homeroom, and volunteering when extra help is needed within the Club.

Some of the major events planned by the Mission Club include:

  • Guest Speakers
  • Christmas Gift Bags From the Heart for the Immaculate Conception Drop-In
  • Canned Food Drive for Winnipeg Harvest
  • Monthly Casual Days (scroll down for more information)

Mission Club Motto

Never underestimate the difference YOU can make in the lives of others. Step forward, reach out and help. Be part of Community!

Casual Days

It is tradition at SMA to hold Casual Days to honour, build awareness, and raise funds for non-profit charitable organizations supported by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Each month, from October to June, a Casual Day is held and a community organization in need is highlighted. For each monthly Casual Day, students donate $2 and may wear casual clothes to school instead of the SMA uniform.

Below is a list of the charities that the SMA Mission Club donates to each year; please find a corresponding website to find out more information.

How to Donate – New Options for the 2022/2023 School Year:

We have updated the options of how Casual Day donations can be made. Historically, each student provided their $2 donation on Casual Day. This year, we are pleased to offer one of three options to make donations easier for families.

OPTION #1 – A one-time lump sum electronic donation

  •  A $20 one-time donation, per child, can be made electronically from this Permission Click link. The link will be active until the day before the first casual day on October 6, 2022 (after this date, the link will no longer be active).

OPTION #2 – A one-time lump sum cash/cheque donation

  • A $20 one-time donation, per child, by cash or cheque will be available on the first Casual Day of the year (October 7, 2022).
  • Mission Club students will be at tables at the Sheila Chipman Atrium doors and ramp doors on the first casual day. Please have your child/children bring the donation(s) to one of these tables.
  • Make cheque payable to: St. Mary’s Academy. Note Mission Club - Casual Day Donation in the memo.

OPTION #3 – A $2 monthly cash donation

  • Your child/children can bring $2 in cash to school each month on Casual Day.
  • Students from Mission Club will be going from class-to-class throughout Casual Days to collect donations from students who have chosen this option.
